The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated casual Arena Operator to join the Recreation Centres Team. The position reports to the Recreation Centres Team Leader and is responsible for:

  • Providing manual labour duties related to maintaining ice and equipment;
  • Ensuring the arenas and recreation facility common areas are maintained in proper and safe condition for public enjoyment;
  • Providing exceptional customer service;
  • Assisting with crowd control and basic security; 
  • Operating the ice-resurfacing machine and power edger to ensure Arenas ice surfaces are maintained, including ice making, removal and maintenance;
  • Opening and closing recreation centres as required;
  • General plumbing repair and maintenance;
  • Evening and weekend shifts required.

What you Bring

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is equivalency to:

  • High School diploma with specialized training recognized by a certificate;
  • 3 or more years related work experience representing continuous learning and career progression required;
  • Possession of Arena Operator Level 1, or willing to obtain;
  • A valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (non GDA) with less than 6 demerit points and no suspension or pending suspensions, required;
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and environmental conditions;
  • Strong customer service skills;
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail, time management and problem solving skills.
