Navigating Town services and payments during the Canada Post Strike

Canada Post community mailbox in front of fence

While the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has moved to rotating strikes as of October 11, 2025, disruptions to Canada Post's mail and parcel delivery options are still expected.

This service disruption will impact the Town’s mailed items, such as the special ballots for the Okotoks Municipal Election. Depending on the strike duration, it could also affect delivery of property tax bills, utility bills, invoices and other correspondence.

Payment due dates to the Town remain unchanged. Residents and businesses are responsible for ensuring payments are received by the due dates.

“Town services remain open, and there are easy alternatives to keep accounts up to date,” said CAO Elane Vincent. “We appreciate residents’ patience and encourage them to use online, in-person, or drop-off options until regular mail resumes.”

Election – Special Ballots

The Town has a contingency plan to maintain accessibility and compliance for special ballots during the Municipal Election. Residents who need to vote by special ballot can contact the Elections Team through our online contact form or by phone at 403-995-2784. Learn more about special ballots

How to Make Payments to the Town with Disruptions to Mail Service

With this disruption to Canada Post mail service, residents and businesses are advised to make payments using one of the following options offered by the Town of Okotoks to avoid missing deadlines and late penalties:

  • Pay in Person:  Bring a copy of your bill or notice to the Municipal Centre at 5 Elizabeth Street from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. (closed on weekends and statutory holidays).
    • Accepted Payment Methods:
      • For invoices, business licences, permits: cash, cheque, debit, Visa or Mastercard
      • For utility bills and tax notices: cash, cheque or debit only

  • Pay at your Bank: Pay at most local banks, credit unions, or an TD Canada Trust Bank by presenting a copy of your bill and form of payment.

  • After Hours Payment Drop-off: Place your payment and the bottom portion of your bill/tax notice in an envelope. Then drop it into the night deposit box located at the front doors of the Okotoks Municipal Centre, #5 Elizabeth Street.

  • Online: Payments can be made online through most major banks or credit unions. Allow seven days for processing to avoid late charges.
    • When setting up an account as a new bill payee, search “Okotoks” first. Then select the type of account you want to add. Finally, enter your account number.
    • Note: Tax accounts are 7-digits, Utilities are 10-digits, and Receivables (often called “AR”, “Licensing”, or similar) are 6-digits.

  • Pay Over the Phone:  To make a payment with Visa or Mastercard, call our main line at 403-938-4404 from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. (closed on weekends and statutory holidays).
