Okotoks residents who want to run for office to become Mayor or Town Councillor must complete a number of steps before they can collect campaign contributions and be added to the ballot. The nomination process includes completing all required forms, collecting signatures from residents and paying a deposit.
STEP 1: Check Your Eligibility

STEP 2: File your Notice of Intent to Run
- Individuals who plan to run in the 2025 municipal election can only accept campaign contributions and incur campaign expenses once their Notice of Intent Form is complete and they are added to the Register of Candidates.
- The Notice of Intent must be filed with the Returning Officer by mail, email or in-person to the attention of the Returning Officer at the Town of Okotoks Municipal Centre.
- Once the Returning Officer receives your completed form, your name will be added to the Register of Candidates. If there are any changes, please notify the Returning Officer in writing.
STEP 3: Complete and File Nomination Papers
To become a nominated candidate and appear on the ballot, a candidate must complete the nomination process during the nomination period from January 2, 2025 to 12 p.m. on September 22, 2025.
Candidates who wish to appear on the ballot for the 2025 Okotoks municipal election are required to submit the following completed nomination papers and nomination fee:
