Planning Bylaws and Guiding Documents

What are the planning documents that help build and develop Okotoks?

The growth and development of Okotoks is guided by a number of long-range statutory and non-statutory plans and policies that provide community wide, area or topic specific guidance to manage community growth.  These documents work together to support the community in achieving its economic, community and environmental sustainability objectives.

Area Specific (Statutory) Plans: Area Structure Plans/Neighbourhood Area Structure Plans

The following plans provide policy direction for growth and development in specific areas within Okotoks. These plans must align with and support the implementation of the Municipal Development Plan.

Regional and Intermunicipal Plans

The following plans provide overarching direction on matters of regional and intermunicipal significance. Local statutory plans must be aligned with these plans. 

Community Wide (Statutory) Plans and Bylaws

These plans provide policy direction to guide the overall growth and direction of the community.  All growth and development must be aligned with the policies and regulations of these documents.

Community Wide (Non-statutory) Plans

These plans must align with and support the implementation of the Municipal Development Plan and are used to inform the preparation of area specific plans and development proposals.

Area Specific (Non-statutory Plans)

The following plans provide direction and/or supportive information for growth and development in specific areas within Okotoks. These plans must align with and support the implementation of the Municipal Development Plan.
