Master Plans

The MDP is Okotoks’ main long-term plan that guides how the town will grow. It lays out where future homes, businesses, roads and green spaces will go, and sets the overall vision for development. Required by provincial law, all other local plans and decisions must follow it. The MDP helps residents and developers understand where the community is heading and what values are shaping that future.

After 12 months of robust stakeholder and community engagement, the Environmental Master  Plan (EMP) was finalized and approved by Town Council in October 2018. The EMP is a comprehensive long-term community plan that identifies, prioritizes and sets specific goals and targets for key environmental initiatives for the Town and the community. It encompasses all aspects of the environment, from developing new land, to sustainable practices for energy, water, waste, emissions, urban forests, construction, and transportation networks – anything that impacts the natural world.

The Recreation, Parks, & Leisure Master Plan Update was approved by Council in July, 2023. The plan identifies future requirements for facilities, programs, services, and anticipated facility costs, and will serve as a guideline for decision making for the next 20 years.

The Social Needs Assessment & Strategy lays the foundation for a more inclusive, affordable and connected community. This community-driven plan outlines strategic priorities and actions designed to enhance social well-being and support for all residents as Okotoks continues to change and grow.

CHAMP II is a roadmap to build a more vibrant culture for our community. The plan lays out a framework that links the desired long-term future of culture, heritage and arts in Okotoks with short-term activity. This framework identifies actions for the first five years of implementation, but includes a 15 to 20-year approach that allows monitoring, learning and adaptation over time.

Developed with broad public input from residents, businesses and other impacted groups, the statutory Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan builds on previous planning work and reflects the shared values of the community. The plan will guide decision-making, zoning updates, capital investments and private development in the downtown area and outlines the community’s vision for a more active, connected and resilient downtown core. The 2025 Standards of Cover documents the characteristics of our community, hazards and risks, response quality, and the plan to maintain or improve our capabilities. It uses data and community expectations to establish clear service expectations and identify where improvements may be needed.

Okotoks Fire & Rescue 2026-2031 Strategic Plan 

The Okotoks Fire & Rescue 2026-2031 Strategic Plan builds on this information by setting priorities and outlining the actions needed to strengthen services over time. It reflects both community input and organizational planning, identifying goals, timelines, and areas of focus for the future. Together, the Standards of Cover and Strategic Plan support a continuous improvement approach, using data to understand current performance, setting goals for service enhancements, and regularly reviewing progress to ensure that Okotoks Fire & Rescue continues to meet the needs of a vibrant and changing community.
