Area Specific (Statutory) Plans

• Area Structure Plans (ASP)

  Area Structure Plans (ASP) are statutory plans under the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and are mainly used to provide general use of land, transportation and servicing framework for areas undergoing new development.

  As per the MGA, an ASP must describe the:
  •    Sequence of development proposed for the area
  •    Land uses proposed for the area
  •    Population proposed for the area; and
  •    General location of major transportation routes and public utilities

• Neighbourhood Area Structure Plans (NASP)

  Neighbourhood Area Structure Plans (NASP) are statutory plans under the Municipal Government Act and provide a greater level of detail than an ASP, typically at the neighbourhood level.  These plans are used to guide the re-designation, subdivision and development of land within a specific area.

• Area Redevelopment Plans (ARP)

  An Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP) is a legally binding, statutory planning document that guides the redevelopment of existing areas needing rehabilitation or improvement. ARPs provide a framework for future development, focusing on issues like proposed land uses, rehabilitation of existing buildings and infrastructure improvements. They are used to support a long-term vision for a specific area within a municipality, guiding development and redevelopment decisions.

• Active Transportation Implementation Plan

  Town has prepared an Active Transportation Implementation Plan (ATIP) that contains a prioritized list of active transportation infrastructure projects to improve the safety, accessibility and connectivity of Okotoks’ pathway and sidewalk system: the active transportation network. The ATIP, which is intended as a 10-year planning document, outlines both the infrastructure improvements and supportive policies and programs that are required to develop an active transportation network that works for all ages and abilities.
