Several years ago, Parks rebranded the Birth Place Forest program into the Citizens Grove!  To celebrate this enhanced community program, a new Citizen Grove is planted on National Tree Day each year.

The Citizen Grove represents all residents of Okotoks, new and old!  Each grove is approximately 50 various trees and shrubs that will add beauty and biodiversity into our parks

The Birth Place Forest was a Town Council initiative that began in 2009 and is a nice way to help add canopy cover to the open spaces in Okotoks.

What is National Tree Day?
National Tree Day is a celebration for all Canadians to appreciate the great benefits that trees provide us - clean air, wildlife habitat, reducing energy demand and connecting with nature.  National Tree Day is celebrated on the third week of September during Canada’s National Forestry Week. To learn more about the history of National Tree Day click the button below.
