The Healthy Okotoks Coalition operates all community gardens in partnership with the Town of Okotoks and dedicated community members. Together, we create vibrant, inclusive spaces where residents can grow food, build connections, and support overall community well-being. Whether you are new to gardening or an experienced grower, each garden relies on the shared commitment of its members to care for the space, contribute to its upkeep, and support one another throughout the season.
The Healthy Okotoks Coalition (HOC), alongside community partners, volunteers, and grant funding, developed the first community garden in Okotoks in 1999, beginning with 35 raised garden beds. This initiative quickly grew into a thriving and beloved program that offered residents a place to grow healthy produce while building meaningful relationships with fellow gardeners. In 2017, an additional 21 raised beds were added to meet increasing community demand.
A partnership with the Okotoks Food Bank further strengthened the program, dedicating a large open growing area to produce fresh vegetables for local families. This space—now known as the Food Bank’s community learning garden—continues to play an important role in enhancing local food security. In 2021, volunteers harvested 2,048 pounds of fresh produce for Okotoks and area Food Banks, demonstrating the ongoing impact of community-driven growing efforts.
In 2024, the HOC Community Garden proudly celebrated its 25th harvest—a milestone that reflects decades of community participation, stewardship, and shared success. Today, the gardens remain deeply valued by community members and continue to bring people together through growing, learning, and caring for these vibrant shared spaces.
