LEAD - Youth Leadership Certification

LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment, Achieving a Difference) is a City of Calgary certification program that will be offered again in Okotoks in fall 2022 for youth in grades 7-12. The program consists of nine learning modules, followed by implementation of a practicum project in areas such as recreation programs, community events and volunteering.

2022 LEAD Program Details

Participants build self-esteem and self-confidence through learning about leadership, communication, conflict management, problem solving, planning and organizing, personal wellness, leisure education, teamwork and decision making skills, all while making and working with friends!

At the conclusion of the course, participants will graduate and receive a certificate of completion. 

This program is intended to be interactive and looks to teach leaderships skills to youth in the community. Youth acquire lifelong leadership skills by taking this leadership course, including:

  • Youth identify and demonstrate an increase in self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth.
  • Youth become more involved in the community.
  • Youth are exposed to and involved in new opportunities and activities. 
  • Youth are engaged in meaningful opportunities to practice learned leadership skills.
  • Youth are connecting with other people and developing meaningful relationships.
  • Youth completing the required courses for a certificate leads to credibility, recognition and opportunity for youth at school, work and in the community.
