Town and Legion Update Veterans Way Crosswalk

Veteran's salute

Exciting news for downtown Okotoks! The Town and our local Royal Canadian Legion are teaming up this week to refresh the beautiful tributes along Veterans Way. We’re replacing the older installations with much more durable versions to ensure our local veterans are honoured for a long time to come.

According to Chris MacIsaac, the Town's Community Identity Manager, the goal is to make sure these tributes stay respectful and "built to last." While the first round of materials didn't quite stand up to our tough weather, these new resilient methods are designed to stay bright and sturdy for years.

We are prioritizing safety by installing a high-visibility "zebra" crosswalk on Veterans Way to keep pedestrians safe. This crossing will also feature a red-and-white commemorative design as a beautiful tribute to those who served. In addition to the new roadwork, two soldier silhouettes are being added to the area to complete the memorial. The best part is that these upgrades are being handled by the original contractor at no extra cost to the community.

Traffic Tip:
The team expects to wrap everything up by the end of this week. There are no road closures planned, though you might see reduced lanes and flaggers to help traffic flow smoothly.
