Preparation Work (April 29 – May 2, weather permitting)
- Road and sidewalk closures
- Detour and traffic control setup
- Temporary accesses constructed for businesses and residences
Major Construction (May 4 – September 20, weather permitting)
- Full road reconstruction
- Underground water, sanitary and storm sewer main replacement
- Sidewalk, pathway, landscaping and streetscape improvements
- Upgrading of Triangle Park
Impacts
- Full road and sidewalk closures throughout the project area
- No parking on:
- South side of McRae Street
- West side of Lineham Avenue
- Increased traffic on detour routes
- Noise, dust, and heavy equipment during construction
What to Expect
- Clearly marked detours via:
- McRae Street and Lineham Avenue
- South Railway Street via the Lineham Avenue roundabout (until construction at intersection of Veterans Way and Riverside Drive begins later this season as part of the River’s Edge Infrastructure Improvements project)
- Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout construction
- Traffic control and signage in place to guide drivers and pedestrians
- Priority work on Alberta Avenue to reopen it as early as possible (timing TBD)
- Ongoing updates as construction progresses
Why This Work is Happening
Preparation work allows crews to safely set up detours and access routes ahead of construction.
The full construction phase will upgrade aging infrastructure and improve roads, sidewalks and public spaces to support a more accessible and vibrant downtown.
