What To Expect

  • Full road closure of North Railway St lasting until mid-November
  • Partial parking bans are also in place along McRae St and Alberta Ave until North Railway Street is re-opened.
  • Clear signage to help access properties in the area
  • Construction activity and traffic control personnel on-site
  • Detour signage and changed traffic patterns
  • Now that the deep utility construction near the center of the road is complete, construction is starting to get closer to buildings with the removal of old sidewalks and landscaped areas.
  • Residents and visitors to downtown businesses are encouraged to use caution around the construction areas as the work is evolving every day. New safety risks can arise within the construction zone so everyone is asked to stay clear and give the contractor the space they need to work safely and effectively.
  • Downtown businesses remain open, including the Art Gallery and Museum. Look for signage to help guide where you can park and walk to access your favorite shops.
  • Access to businesses (including the Art Gallery and Museum) and residences maintained

Reminders

  • Motorists are encouraged to drive slowly and cautiously through the new detour route as this is a narrow local road where residents and children are adapting to the increased volume of traffic on their streets.

Why This Work Is Happening
This work is part of our ongoing effort to replace aging underground infrastructure and reduce the risk of unexpected service disruptions (like pipe bursts). It’s also the first step in a larger plan to enhance downtown Okotoks. Once complete, you’ll see wider sidewalks, better lighting and more inviting public spaces—all aimed at making our downtown more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
