Earth Day in Okotoks is more than a single day, it’s a full week of opportunities for residents to get involved, learn something new, and take action to support the environment. Throughout the week, a variety of programs, workshops and community events offer ways for residents of all ages to learn, explore nature, and contribute to caring for our local environment.
Residents can start by joining a special Green Living Workshop focused on xeriscaping and water‑wise gardening on Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Environmental Education Centre. Offered both in person and online, the session features practical tips from local experts and includes door prizes. Registration is required at okotoks.ca/green-events.
From April 24 to 27, the iNaturalist Nature Challenge invites residents to become citizen scientists by documenting local plants and wildlife. Participants can explore Okotoks’ biodiversity while contributing valuable environmental data. Participation is free and open to everyone, with details available at okotoks.ca/nature-challenge.
Families are also invited to a special edition of Nature Friday at the Environmental Education Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities include hands‑on crafts and creating wildflower seed bombs. No registration is required.
Residents looking to make a longer-term impact can take part in the ‘Raise the Canopy’ initiative, which provides an additional $100 rebate toward approved trees through the Water Rebate Program. These rebates help grow Okotoks’ tree canopy while saving water and money . Applications are now open at okotoks.ca/water-rebate.
Looking ahead, the 25th Annual Community Clean Up and Tree Planting takes place on May 9. Volunteers are invited to pre‑register, form teams, and join hundreds of community members in caring for parks, pathways and natural spaces across Okotoks. Registration details can be found at okotoks.ca/clean-up.
From backyards to pathways, every action, big or small, this Earth Day helps care for the places that make our community special.
