Join Jennifer Hoglin from Gooseberry Gardens for a hands-on Green Living Workshop all about seed starting for our Alberta climate. You’ll learn when to start different crops, how to choose soil and containers, and simple tricks to prevent common issues.
Jennifer will walk us through step-by-step methods for starting seeds indoors, from reading seed packets and planning your garden to hardening off and moving seedlings outside. Then we’ll roll up our sleeves and plant seeds you can take home to kickstart your garden for the season.
This workshop is perfect for curious first-time gardeners and seasoned growers who want to refine their techniques, save money, and grow stronger, healthier plants from seed. All materials are provided, just bring your questions and be ready to get your hands dirty!
Please note that registration is required for this event:
Jennifer Hoglin has been getting her hands dirty in the garden since before she could walk but has been gardening in the Calgary area for over 25 years. Currently, she is the owner of Gooseberry Gardens, a gardening website, blog, and landscape design company. It was a long winding road to horticulture. She started off as a professional cook in her early years, switched it up by earning a science degree in environmental biology, and then switched it up again with a diploma in architectural technology. Having decided that gardening was going to be her future, she then completed her Master Gardener certification. Along the way she also stumbled into permaculture and earned her Permaculture Design Certificate. The result is a passion for food gardening and garden design all encompassed in Gooseberry Gardens. In her spare time, she teaches for the Calgary Horticultural Society, including their Master Gardener Program.
She’s thrilled to bring her expertise to the Green Living Workshop and can’t wait to help you grow something great!
