Your resume is the backbone of your application—it’s often the first thing hiring managers review. A well-crafted resume helps us understand your qualifications and how you can contribute to the Town of Okotoks.

How to write a good resume

Your cover letter is your opportunity to introduce yourself and share your story. It’s a chance to show us who you are beyond your resume—why you’re passionate about the role, how your experience aligns with our community values, and what you hope to contribute to the Town of Okotoks.

• Be authentic and enthusiastic: Share why you're excited about the opportunity and how it connects to your values or goals.
• Highlight your achievements: Go beyond your resume—explain how you made an impact and what success looked like.
• Show your understanding of the Town: Demonstrate knowledge of our community, services, or current initiatives that resonate with you.
• Add depth, not duplication: Use your cover letter to expand on key points from your resume, offering context and insight.
• Keep it concise and professional: Aim for one page and consider combining your cover letter and resume into a single document for easy submission.

We primarily use behavioural descriptive questions during interviews. These questions focus on your past experiences and how you’ve handled specific situations, helping us understand how you may approach similar challenges in your role with the Town of Okotoks. 

You may also be asked technical or skill based questions, depending on the nature of the position.

The STAR method can help you clearly describe what you did and the results you achieved. Follow these easy steps to help structure your responses, we recommend using the STAR method:

• Situation – Describe a specific event, task, or challenge you faced
• Task – Explain what you aimed to achieve and why
• Action – Detail the steps you took to address the situation
• Result – Share the outcome and what was accomplished

Can I still apply if I've missed the application deadline?
