The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Bylaw Officer to be a part of the Okotoks Municipal Enforcement Business Centre. The position reports to the Municipal Enforcement Team Leader and will be responsible for duties as such:

  • Play a vital role in preserving public peace and supporting community safety initiatives within the Town.
  • Conduct proactive patrols, engage with the public, and enforce municipal bylaws respectfully and empathetically.
  • Liaise with community groups, schools, and organizations to deliver public awareness programs and foster positive relationships.
  • Investigate complaints, resolve issues, and collaborate with other enforcement agencies and Town departments.
  • Opportunity to participate in ongoing training, process improvements, and special projects, with potential for court appearances and report writing.

What you Bring

A combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to qualify. A typical way to qualify is equivalency of successful completion of a related diploma (e.g., Criminology, Police Foundations):

  • Require a minimum of 1 or more years related work experience representing continuous learning and career progression.
  • Work experience in bylaw, security or enforcement roles preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy along with proven written and oral communication skills, including public speaking are required.
  • A valid Alberta class 5 driver’s license (non GDL) or provincial equivalent, with no more than 6 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance at the level of RCMP ‘Verifiable Reliability’.
  • Must be able to meet the shift requirements which may include evenings, weekends and statutory holidays
