The first stage of construction on Riverside Drive is expected to begin approximately August 19, weather permitting, as part of the River’s Edge Infrastructure Improvements project. Riverside Drive between Veterans Way and the Okotoks United Church and the intersection of Riverside Drive and Veterans Way will be CLOSED to regular vehicle traffic throughout construction while crews replace and upsize sanitary sewer infrastructure and complete roadway and parking improvements. Businesses, Okotoks Public Library, Okotoks United Church and pedestrian access will be maintained.
This stage of the work, expected to take place from approximately August 19-24, is expected to have the greatest traffic impacts. Drivers should expect significant traffic pattern changes, detours and delays throughout the area. Additional congestion is anticipated at the Elizabeth Street/Northridge Drive intersection, particularly for westbound traffic turning left onto southbound Northridge Drive.
The second stage of construction, which will include continued Riverside Drive closure for roadway and utility work along Riverside Drive toward the United Church, is expected to continue from late August through to late October 2026.
