Type of Work
As part of the River's Edge Infrastructure Improvement project, sanitary sewer replacement and upsizing, roadway improvements and new on-street parking is upcoming on Riverside Drive.
Schedule
Construction is expected to begin approximately August 19, 2026, weather permitting, and continue through late October 2026. Construction west of the Okotoks United Church will resume in spring 2027.
Stage 1: Approximately August 19-24
Deep utility work at the Veterans Way/Riverside Drive intersection.
Stage 2: Approximately late August to late October
Roadway and utility construction continues west along Riverside Drive toward the Okotoks United Church.
Impacts
- Riverside Drive within the work zone will be closed to regular vehicle traffic throughout construction.
- On-street parking along Riverside Drive between Veterans Way and the library parking lot will be unavailable during construction.
- Drivers should expect traffic pattern changes, detours and delays throughout the project.
- During Stage 1, significant congestion is expected at the Elizabeth Street/Northridge Drive intersection, particularly for westbound traffic turning left onto southbound Northridge Drive.
- Sidewalks on the south side of Riverside Drive will remain open.
What to Expect
Stage 1
- Veterans Way south of Daggett Street closed to vehicle traffic.
- No vehicle access between Veterans Way and South Railway Street.
- South Railway Street accessible via Lineham Avenue.
- Significant detours and delays expected.
- Pedestrian access maintained.
Stage 2
- Veterans Way reopens to northbound, southbound and eastbound traffic.
- The west leg connection to Riverside Drive remains closed until late October.
- Riverside Drive remains closed within the work zone.
- Access to the Okotoks Public Library and the Okotoks United Church maintained through a temporary connection between the church and library parking lots.
- Access to businesses and pedestrian access maintained.

Why is this Work Happening?
