Town Council adopted the 2027–2030 Strategic Plan at its June 8 meeting, setting a clear direction for the next four years and reinforcing what makes Okotoks feel like home. At the heart of the plan is a simple guiding focus: Identity First, meaning decisions will be grounded in protecting and enhancing Okotoks’ character, with connection at the centre of every choice.
The Strategic Plan was shaped by what Council heard from the community through the municipal election, the 2025 Community Priorities Survey, and the 2025 Budget Engagement process. Those conversations helped identify the priorities that will guide decisions, investments and service delivery over the coming years.
“One of the strongest themes we heard from residents was simple: protect what makes Okotoks, Okotoks,” said Mayor Tanya Thorn. “People want a community that continues to evolve and thrive, but they also want to preserve the character, relationships, and quality of life that make this such a special place. This Strategic Plan embraces that vision. By putting identity first, we are committing to decisions that strengthen our community, celebrate what makes us unique, and ensure future generations experience the same sense of pride and connection that residents cherish today.”
The Strategic Plan focuses on three priority areas:
- People: A Community to Call Home
Supporting belonging and community wellbeing by improving access to recreation, arts, amenities and services, while strengthening relationships with residents and community partners. - Place: A Connected Community
Building connected neighbourhoods and vibrant public spaces that make it easy to access everyday destinations, while protecting the character and natural beauty that make Okotoks unique. - Business: A Thriving Local Economy
Supporting local businesses and entrepreneurship, attracting the right investment, and creating opportunities for people to work and build careers closer to home.
These priorities are supported by strong organizational foundations, including responsible financial management, modern systems, and clear, efficient processes to keep services reliable and affordable.
“What I love about this plan is that it starts with people,” said Elaine Vincent, Chief Administrative Officer. “It recognizes that the work we do every day, from the services we deliver to the partnerships we build and the places we care for, all contributes to how people experience Okotoks. This plan gives Administration a meaningful framework to support Council’s vision and help strengthen the sense of belonging, connection and pride that residents value so deeply.”
Progress on the Strategic Plan will be shared through the Town’s Corporate Business Plan, annual reporting, and regular updates throughout the year so residents can see how priorities are being advanced.
While Council’s current Strategic Plan will continue to guide priorities through the remainder of 2026, the new 2027–2030 Strategic Plan will help shape upcoming budget and planning discussions as the Town looks ahead to 2027 and beyond.
