The Volunteer Resource Centre facilitates community volunteer involvement through promotion, recruiting, interviewing, screening, placing, referring, supporting and recognizing volunteers in our community. We strive to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities, promote life-long learning, and provide services and support to vulnerable residents.
Adult Volunteer Application Form
The Town of Okotoks has a volunteer registry where volunteers apply, are screened, and are then connected with a volunteer opportunities that fits their schedule and utilizes their skills. Referrals will also be made to local nonprofits and organizations to ensure that all volunteers in Okotoks have access to as many opportunities as possible.
Step 1: Complete the online application forms: Adult Volunteer Application Form or Youth Volunteer Application Form.
Step 2: Once your application is received, the Volunteer Resource Centre will contact you to book an interview time that is convenient for you.
Better Impact is our Volunteer Registry. Once volunteers have registered, they can log in to their account to register for Volunteer Activities, Update their Profiles, Track their Volunteer Hours and View their Schedule.

Ice Rink Volunteers
We're looking for Outdoor Ice Rink Volunteers! If you love being outdoors and getting involved in your community, we have an amazing opportunity for you! Volunteers will help maintain outdoor ice rinks throughout the season with duties such as ice inspections, shoveling snow, snow blowing and repairing cracks.
Pop-up Café Volunteer
Pop Up Cafés aims to create a welcoming environment for community members who may be experiencing isolation or loneliness. By fostering connections, the café encourages relationships between residents and builds a sense of belonging. Pop Up Café Volunteers are crucial to creating a warm, friendly, and safe atmosphere for everyone. Your main role is to engage with visitors, offer them refreshments and snacks, and promote community connections through conversations and activities.
*Pop up café volunteer orientation is required and will be scheduled once your application is accepted.

2025 National Volunteer Week is April 27 to May 3, and this year's theme is Volunteers Make Waves. The theme highlights the power, impact and importance of individual and collective volunteer efforts across Canada. Like a wave, volunteering is movement building. Let's shine a light on the incredible volunteers who selflessly give their time and energy to make our community a wonderful place to call home.
We'd like to introduce you to Larry and Heather, both of whom have been volunteering for more than 30 years!
Larry, who first started volunteering with his son’s hockey team, said the joy of helping his community and seeing the smiles of the people he’s helped is what keeps him coming back to volunteering year after year.
He has been volunteering with the Town of Okotoks Memory Café for three years, and said his experience there has been one of his fondest volunteer memories. He always has a great time making new friendships, sharing a laugh and lending an ear to those who need it.
He encourages people to get involved with volunteering because It’s a great way to meet new people, put a smile on their face, and feel a sense of accomplishment knowing you have helped your community. His advice to new volunteers is to enjoy the experience and have fun!
Heather, who initially began volunteering in her daughter’s classroom and helping first graders learn to read, has also been volunteering at the Memory Café since she first arrived in Okotoks three years ago.
Her fondest memories of volunteering include supporting seniors at the Memory Café, holding a premature baby in need of a cuddle in the NICU, or seeing the children’s faces when they see the Easter bunny at an event. For her, it’s the small gestures that warm your heart and soul.
To those who are contemplating volunteerism, Heather urges you to get involved – she said it’s so much fun, and it’s a great way to meeting caring people and make lifelong friends. Her hope is that she can continue to volunteer for many years to come and have the opportunity to see the smiles it brings.

We're recognizing and celebrating our amazing local volunteers all week long! Today, we would like to introduce you to Kathy!
Kathy has been volunteering for more than 11 years, and currently volunteers at Mission Thrift Store, the Foothills Hospice Society and Tudor Manor. She also previously spent 9 years volunteering for Sandstone Lodge.
At the Mission Thrift Store, she volunteers by working the cash register, and both Tudor Manor and the Foothills Hospice Society, her volunteer duties include spending time with the patients and the residents.
Kathy loves volunteering because it makes her feel really great to give back to her community. She enjoys working with seniors and wants to ensure they never feel alone. A fun fact about Kathy is that her great great uncle was a very famous Norwegian explorer, so we’re sure she has some great stories to tell while she volunteers!
When asked what her dream volunteer opportunity would be, she said that she is doing it! She loves spending time with people, talking with them and hearing their stories.

It's National Volunteer Week and we'd like to highlight local volunteer, Linda!
Linda has been volunteering for three years with the Town of Okotoks, Mission Thrift Store, Basically Babies in Calgary and Samaritans Purse.
Some of the Town of Okotoks programs and initiatives Linda has volunteered with include our Pop Up Cafés, where she provides coffee and conversation to members of our community who may be experiencing isolation or loneliness at various locations around Town; Memory café, where she helps create a safe place for discussion, laughs and friendship for members of our community, including those with dementia and their care partners; and Toddle Down activities, where she gets to interact with toddlers in a fun and creative setting.
Her volunteer work also includes sorting, pricing and adding product to shelves at Mission Thrift Store; knitting baby blankets for Basically Babies; and supporting Samaritans Purse Christmas Box Program.
Linda’s favourite thing about volunteering is the satisfaction she gets from interacting with people of all ages, putting a smile on someone’s face and being involved in her community.
Her dream volunteer opportunity includes crafting with kids, and making newcomers feel welcome in Okotoks, and showing them everything our Town has to offer.

We'd like to introduce you to Jane, one of our amazing volunteers we will be highlighting this week!
Jane has been volunteering for 7 years, and supported Town programs like the Volunteer Driver program, where she provides Okotoks residents with safe, free and reliable transportation to medical appointments outside of Town, as well as Repair Café, where she assists in mending items in need of repair that would otherwise be thrown away.
Jane also volunteers for Faith, Hope, Charity – a quilting group that helps prepare needed quilts, bags, placemats, and gifts for various purposes.

Okotoks, meet Patricia (Pat), an amazing local volunteer we are highlighting as a part of National Volunteer Week!
Pat has been volunteering with Inclusion Foothills Association for five years, as a member of the Board of Directors, as well as in the capacities of director and vice president! You can also catch Pat at many Inclusion Foothills Events, such as the Okotoks Farmers Market.
Pat said there are many organizations who do important work in our community, but she chose to volunteer with Inclusion Foothills because of the support they have provided to her daughter who has a disability.
A fun fact about Pat is that she is currently traveling in Ireland, and has been there for nearly 6 months! We sure hope you’re enjoying yourself, Pat, you deserve it!
When asked what her dream volunteer opportunity would be, Pat said it’s something she has already done, which was organizing and teaching with adult community bands in the areas she was living.

We're recognizing and celebrating our amazing local volunteers all week long! Today, we would like to introduce you to Robbie!
Robbie has been volunteering with Rowan Hour for 10 years, first as a co-facilitator of their relationship group offered to members of the community, and within the last 6 years, as support for their community events and fundraising activities.
As an active member in the community, Robbie has also volunteered her services with Victim Services, Court Support from 2015 to 2020, and the Heart & Stroke Foundation coordinating and canvassing in her area.
As a former social worker, Robbie has seen the first-hand benefits of community programs and the support they receive from volunteers. She believes it’s important to contribute to community life in a positive way and has a special interest in supporting and empowering women. The focus of Robbie’s career was helping women achieve their goals, so volunteering at Rowan House was a natural next step for her after she retired.
Fun fact – Robbie is the owner to a smart, affectionate and sociable Black Labrador/Bernese Mountain dog named Ebony!
As far as dream volunteer roles go, Robbie has landed hers at Rowan House. The goals of the organization align with her own, and she feels they offer crucial services to the community. The respect and acknowledgement Robbie has received from both staff and clients makes her work for the shelter and their community programs feel valuable and important.
