Subsidized Transportation

If you are a resident of Okotoks and answer YES to any of the questions below, you may qualify for the subsidized taxi program:

• Are you 60 years of age or older?
• Do you have a permanent or short-term disability that prevents you from driving?

Required Supporting Documents

For individuals aged 60 and over:

• Proof of age is required. Accepted documents include:
• Birth certificate
• Passport
• Driver’s license
• Alberta Health Card

For individuals with a permanent or short-term disability:

• A current medical note dated within the last 3 to 6 months is required. The note must confirm that the disability prevents the individual from driving.
• For short-term disabilities, the note should include an estimated timeframe for when the individual might be able to drive again.

Once your application has been reviewed and approved, an identification card will be mailed to you.

For those requiring a wheelchair accessible vehicle, call 403-995-2773 to make trip arrangements. Please provide at least 48 hours notice.

Program Guidelines:

• Show their Community Access Program identification card to the driver and sign a receipt at the end of each trip.
• Those using the service must pay the taxi driver directly, at the established program rates. 
• This program does not pay for wait time. It is the responsibility of the user to pay for any wait times incurred.
• Please book 24 hours in advance for out-of-town trips and service outside the hours of 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.
• Delivery services, trips to airport, casino, entertainment venues or paramedical transportation are not eligible for subsidization under the program.

All drive requests are managed through the Okotoks Family Resource Centre. Contact the Centre to discuss your needs and learn more about the program. As much notice as possible when requesting drives is appreciated in order to communicate needs to the pool of Volunteer Drivers.
