Planning Framework Update

The Town of Okotoks is undertaking a phased review of key policy documents that shape the growth and development of Okotoks.

About the Project

The Town is reviewing its Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB) to ensure they remain current, effective and responsive to the community’s evolving needs. The review is being completed in phases to address priority issues sooner, support focused engagement and make the process more manageable. The phases help organize when topics are brought forward for engagement and Council consideration, although work on different parts of the review may happen at the same time.

Why are we reviewing the MDP and LUB?

The MDP and LUB were adopted five years ago and represented a significant evolution in the Town's planning framework. This review provides an opportunity to evaluate how these documents have functioned in practice, incorporate lessons learned through their implementation, ensure alignment with plans and strategies adopted since and respond to emerging issues, opportunities and community needs.
