Town’s Water Conservation Rebate Program returns

The Town of Okotoks is helping residents save water and money through its annual 2026 Water Conservation Rebate Program, which opened March 1.

Rebates are available for a wide range of water‑wise upgrades, including

  • drought‑tolerant turf trees and plants
  • compost and mulch
  • rain barrels
  • soaker hoses
  • watering timers
  • efficient irrigation equipment and
  • WaterSense®‑labelled toilets

Larger rebates are also available for approved xeriscaping projects that replace traditional turf with drought‑tolerant landscaping, as well as for large rainwater collection systems. In many cases, a single collection system can capture the equivalent of roughly 10 rain barrels of water—often enough to replace a traditional sprinkler system and meet most of a yard’s watering needs, including lawns.

The 2026 rebate program runs on a first-come, first-served basis from March 1 to December 15, or until funds are fully allocated. Rebates are open to Okotoks residents with a Town utility account, with eligible purchases dating back to January 1, 2026.

By choosing water‑wise improvements at home, residents are helping ease pressure on the Sheep River and the Town’s water treatment plant during summer months when demand peaks, as well as supporting long‑term sustainability—today and for generations to come.

Residents interested in saving money and creating resilient, low‑maintenance yards can find full program details, including rebate amounts, and apply online at okotoks.ca/water‑rebate. Paper applications can also be picked up at the Municipal Centre or by contacting our Environment team.
