Town receives grant for two new electric ice resurfacers

Town of Okotoks new electric ice resfuracers

The Town of Okotoks has purchased two new electric ice resurfacers with the help of a $100,000 grant, administered by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) through the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) program.

The electric ice resurfacers will be replacing older equipment in both the Centennial Arenas and the Okotoks Recreation Centre and will be another welcome addition to the Town’s electric fleet, which prevents indoor air emissions that have negative impacts on the arena’s ventilation systems, as well as the air quality for Okotoks’ residents who use these spaces for exercise and play.

Additionally, each ice resurfacer, which are the Olympia Millenium E Model, do not require oil changes and have longer-lasting brakes, allowing the Town to reduce maintenance costs and down time needed for general upkeep of this equipment.

“We are proud to add two additional electric ice resurfacers to our electric fleet, which safeguards arena users from toxic air emissions, and supports a healthy recreation environment for our Town,” said Okotoks Recreation Operations Manager, Daniel Robinson. “This purchase also demonstrates the Town’s ongoing commitment to environmental and fiscal responsibility.”

Funding for this project was provided by the Government of Alberta, through the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities Program (EVM), administered by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC). The MCCAC is a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta.
