The Town of Okotoks invites the community to join in a Pipe Ceremony on September 30, 2024, to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This important day honours the Victims, Survivors, and all those affected by the Residential School system.
The ceremony will be held at Ethel Tucker Park at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Site for Residential School Victims and Survivors, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit Plus People. The event will feature a blessing led by Blackfoot Elders, followed by the serving of berry soup and bannock.
The Town recognizes the journey to reconciliation is ongoing and deeply rooted in respect, understanding and action. Observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is one of the many important steps the Town is taking to acknowledge its role in this process and to strengthen relationships with the Indigenous community. The Town of Okotoks is committed to reconciliation and building a relationship through dialogue with the Indigenous community. Okotoks remains committed to fostering an inclusive community that values the history, traditions, and cultures of Indigenous peoples.Â
