Type of Work
As part of the River's Edge Infrastructure Improvement project, sanitary sewer replacement and upsizing, roadway improvements and new on-street parking is upcoming on Riverside Drive.
Schedule
Construction is expected to begin approximately August 19, 2026, weather permitting, and continue through late October 2026.
Stage 1: Approximately August 19-28
Deep utility work at the Veterans Way/Riverside Drive intersection.
Stage 2: Approximately late August to late October
Roadway and utility construction continues west along Riverside Drive toward the Okotoks United Church.
Impacts
- Road closures in effect:
- Riverside Dr between Veterans Way and the United Church until late October.
- Veterans Way/Riverside Drive intersection Aug. 19 to 28).
- On-street parking along Riverside Drive between Veterans Way and the library parking lot will be unavailable during construction.
- EV charging stations at the ALC campus will be inaccessible during construction. Other locations available: https://www.okotoks.ca/our-energy
- Drivers should expect traffic pattern changes, detours and delays throughout the project.
- Significant congestion is expected at the Elizabeth Street/Northridge Drive intersection, particularly for westbound traffic turning left onto southbound Northridge Drive.
- Access to the Okotoks Public Library and the Okotoks United Church maintained through a temporary connection between the church and library parking lots.
- Sidewalks on the south side of Riverside Drive will remain open; pedestrian access maintained.
What to Expect
Stage 1: August 19-28, 2026
- Riverside Drive between Veterans Way and the Okotoks United Church and the intersection of Riverside Drive and Veterans Way closed.
- Veterans Way south of Daggett Street closed to vehicle traffic.
- No vehicle access between Veterans Way and South Railway Street.
- South Railway Street accessible via Lineham Avenue.
- Significant detours and delays expected.
- Access to businesses and pedestrian access maintained.

- Veterans Way reopens to northbound, southbound and eastbound traffic.
- The west leg connection to Riverside Drive remains closed until late October.

- Access to the Okotoks Public Library and the Okotoks United Church maintained through a temporary connection between the church and library parking lots.
- Access to businesses and pedestrian access maintained.
