Play for everyone: New inclusive and accessible playground opens in Howard Park

Inclusive playground with children playing

The new inclusive and accessible playground at Howard Park is ready for play! Construction is complete and we’re thrilled to welcome families to this vibrant space designed for kids of all abilities to enjoy.

With its central location at 229 Woodhaven Drive, easy access to paved pathways that connect to the regional network, and close proximity to facilities like the Viking Rentals Centre, Howard Park is an ideal spot for the new inclusive and accessible playground.

"This playground is a place where every child can laugh, play, and make memories together, no matter their abilities,” said Okotoks Mayor, Tanya Thorn. “It’s a reflection of our commitment to building a truly inclusive community and we can’t wait to see families enjoying it for years to come."

Community input played a key role in bringing this playground to life. As part of the design process, local parents and caregivers who care deeply about accessibility and inclusivity were invited for a hands-on workshop on May 6. Their insights on the draft design and play features played a key role in shaping the final playground.

Howard Park is also home to a brand new All Wheel Skatepark, which opened in early November, along with a ball diamond and various sports fields.

This project was made possible through funding from the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund – Small Projects component. Learn more at okotoks.ca/news.
