Families, riders, and neighbours have a new place to gather and play at Howard Park, where the long-anticipated All Wheel Skatepark is now officially open. Located at 229 Woodhaven Drive, the new skatepark welcomes skateboarders, scooter riders, BMXers and action-sport enthusiasts of all ages. Pedestrian access along the Howard Park Central Pathway has also reopened following construction.
“Across our engagements and planning processes, we heard a strong message from residents and youth about the need for more inclusive recreation spaces—especially on the south side of town,” said Mayor Tanya Thorn. “This skatepark reflects that community direction and helps create more opportunities across Okotoks.”
Input from residents gathered through the 2023 Recreation, Parks and Leisure Master Plan, the Citizen Satisfaction Survey, and the Municipal Development Plan, as well as throughout the design process, including two design workshops and two online surveys, had clearly pointed to the need for more inclusive, youth-focused recreation spaces. As Okotoks’ second skatepark, Howard Park was selected for its ample space, existing amenities, and its role in providing balanced recreation opportunities on the south side of town.
Howard Park continues to grow as a recreation hub. Alongside the ball diamond and sports fields, work on the new accessible and inclusive playground is nearing completion, with opening expected later this month.
