As part of a bold, region-wide effort to create more jobs, attract new businesses and expand opportunities for residents, the Town of Okotoks has joined Invest Greater Calgary (ICG), a collaborative partnership that unites communities to showcase our region’s strengths on the global stage. This initiative goes beyond regional investment, working collectively to compete in international markets and drive long-term economic growth.
“Economic development doesn’t stop at municipal borders,” said Town of Okotoks Mayor Tanya Thorn. “By working together through Invest Greater Calgary, Okotoks will benefit from broader investment opportunities, shared resources and a stronger regional voice to attract new business and talent.”
As a founding member of the initiative, Okotoks joins the City of Calgary, City of Airdrie, City of Chestermere, Town of Cochrane, Foothills County, Town of High River and Rocky View County in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that formalizes this collaborative effort.
Funding for the initiative is shared among members based on population, tax assessment and a base contribution. Additional funding has been secured through provincial and federal economic development programs.
Building a Stronger, More Resilient Region
Invest Greater Calgary aims to position the region as the most attractive place in North America to invest and grow business in key sectors. Over the next three years, the initiative will focus on:
- Strengthening the region’s reputation and competitiveness
- Attracting new investment and expanding existing businesses
- Supporting innovation and industry cluster development
- Advancing job creation and workforce growth
The initiative is led by an Advisory Committee of municipal representatives and coordinated by Calgary Economic Development (CED). A project team, housed within CED, will lead project delivery, research and partner engagement throughout the pilot.
Benefits for Okotoks
Participation in IGC gives Okotoks access to regional research, marketing support and collaboration on projects that support local business retention, investment readiness, and future non-residential growth.
Regional Collaboration, Local Impact
Invest Greater Calgary reflects a shared belief that regional economic development strengthens individual communities. Through this partnership, Okotoks is well-positioned to help shape and benefit from the region’s economic future.
“Regional collaboration is expected to positively contribute to building capacity in economic development within our community,” said Mayor Thorn. “It’s a win for Okotoks and a win for the region.”
