Alberta Transportation Upgrade Work on Highway 2

Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors logo

Beginning Monday, April 29, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors will be upgrading Highway 2 from north of the Sheep River to Highway 2/552 interchange. Paving and intersection widening will be done on 306, 338 & 370 Avenues on southbound lanes (heading north); please see map below.  Work is expected to take several weeks to complete, weather permitting, with the majority happening at night during non-peak times (7pm-6am). Some daytime (6am-dark) work will occur including installation of barriers, overhead lighting, culverts and signage. Highway 2 will remain open throughout construction, however; please expect temporary median closures at 306, 338 & 370 Avenues. Please also expect traffic disruption, speed reduction, lane closures and minor delays. Please watch for construction signage, flag persons and equipment and use caution while in the area. For up to date information on this project, please call 5-1-1 toll free or visit 511.Alberta.ca.

UPDATE: Paving operations will begin the evening of May 14 and begin at the northern area of the project at the Highway 2A/552 interchange. The contractor will implement a ramp closure, avoiding vehicles passing workers, eliminating a pavement seam in the centre of the lane, and eliminating potential damage to vehicles (e.g. tack oil on vehicles). See images of detour route below. Watch for message boards to assist with motorist guidance while the work is on-going. The closure will span from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
