Picnic at the Piano: Calgary Concert Opera

  • Calgary Concert Opera, founded in 2011 by mezzo soprano Barbara King, has performed and produced 13 complete live operas in concert format, including famous works like Carmen, Rigoletto, La Traviata, and Samson et Dalila.

    Over 80 professional and aspiring opera singers from across Canada have participated, including collaborations with groups such as the Foothills Philharmonic Opera Chorus, Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra, 12 Musas Flamenco, Compass Performances Studios, Calgary Civic Symphony, Toronto’s Opera by Request and Alberta Vocal Arts.

    On July 16th, 2025 Calgary Concert Opera will present opera excerpts from their upcoming productions of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and Puccini's Suor Angelica this September, as well as some opera favourites featuring Grace King on the piano, mezzo soprano Barbara King, and sopranos Kathleen Morrison, Alyssa D'Souza and Anastasia Tolarmi.

    Bring a picnic lunch and a blanket and join us for a free, outdoor, family-friendly concert at the Olde Town Plaza!
