National Drowning and Prevention Week 2026

  • This year, National Drowning Prevention Week takes place between July 19 and July 25. Join us as the Okotoks Recreation Centre and Dr. Lander Memorial Pool to take part in some free activities and learn more about water safety. 

    Free Classes:

    • Sunday, July 19, 9:00 AM - 10:00.000 AM at Okotoks Recreation Centre: Free (14+) learn to swim class + stroke correction. Call customer experience to book. 
    • Sunday, July 19, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Dr. Lander Memorial Pool: Free adult learn to swim class + stroke correction (offered for free during paid lane swim). Registration not required. 
    • Thursday, July 23, 2:30 PM: Live demonstration of 12 second rule during public swim. 
    • Friday, July 25, 8:00 PM (Youth Night): Test your rescue skills and safety knowledge against our lifeguard staff! Challenge the Lifeguard during our Youth Night Swim. No registration required.
    • Saturday, July 25, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Dr. Lander Memorial Pool: Family Swim to Survive class. Children under the age of 7 need a guardian 14 years or older in the water with them.  Registration not required. 
    • Saturday, July 25, 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM at Okotoks Recreation Centre: Family Swim to Survive class. Children under the age of 7 need a guardian 14 years or older in the water with them. Call customer experience to book.
