Construction on South Railway Street, as part of the River's Edge Infrastructure Improvements project, is scheduled to begin September 28 and continue until early November, weather permitting. Crews will install new underground water and sanitary infrastructure to improve long-term reliability, increase capacity and support future growth in the area. The work will be completed in two stages to maintain access and keep the project moving forward.
During the first stage of construction, the Lineham Avenue and South Railway Street intersection will be closed to through traffic and the westbound lane of South Railway Street west of Lineham Avenue will be closed. Access to East Lineham, Summit West School, nearby properties and the river valley pathway system will be maintained through temporary access routes and signed detours. On-street parking will be restricted within the active construction area.
As construction progresses, traffic patterns will change and motorists should expect temporary detours, lane closures and parking restrictions. The project team will maintain access for residents, businesses, school traffic and pedestrians throughout construction.
Stage 1: Watermain Installation
September 28 to October 13
Crews will install a new deep watermain along South Railway Street beginning west of the Lineham Avenue intersection and progressing east toward the intersection. During this stage:
Stage 2: Sanitary Sewer Installation
October 14 to Early November
As watermain installation nears completion, crews will begin installing a new deep sanitary sewer. Work will start near the Lineham Avenue intersection and progress west along South Railway Street.
