Riverside Drive Closure for Sewer Upgrades & Road Improvements until October

Project Location

Riverside Drive between Veterans Way and the Okotoks United Church. 

Type of Work

As part of the River's Edge Infrastructure Improvement project, sanitary sewer replacement and upsizing, roadway improvements and new on-street parking is underway on Riverside Drive and will be completed in two stages. Stage 1 is now complete.

Schedule

Stage 2 construction is expected late August through late October 2026. 

Impacts

  • Road closures in effect:
    • Riverside Dr between Veterans Way and the United Church until late October.
    • On-street parking along Riverside Drive between Veterans Way and the library parking lot will be unavailable during construction. 
  • EV charging stations at the ALC campus will be inaccessible during construction. Other locations available: https://www.okotoks.ca/our-energy
  • Drivers should expect traffic pattern changes, detours and delays throughout the project. 
  • Significant congestion is expected at the Elizabeth Street/Northridge Drive intersection, particularly for westbound traffic turning left onto southbound Northridge Drive. 
  • Access to the Okotoks Public Library and the Okotoks United Church maintained through a temporary connection between the church and library parking lots.
  • Sidewalks on the south side of Riverside Drive will remain open; pedestrian access maintained.

What to Expect 

Stage 2: Late August to Late October 2026

  • Veterans Way reopens to northbound, southbound and eastbound traffic.
  • The west leg connection to Riverside Drive remains closed until late October.
  • Riverside Drive remains closed within the work zone.
  • Access to the Okotoks Public Library and the Okotoks United Church maintained through a temporary connection between the church and library parking lots.
  • Access to businesses and pedestrian access maintained.
