The Town of Okotoks Programs Team is looking for an energetic, creative, and caring Assistant Programmer to help deliver exceptional recreation, sport, and licensed childcare 
programs that make a lasting impact in our community.

In this dynamic role, no two days are the same. One day you may be coaching a youth sport program, the next you could be supporting a licensed before and after school care program, 
planning an exciting day camp activity, mentoring volunteers, or helping create memorable community events.

What You'll Do

  • As an Assistant Programmer, you'll support the planning, delivery, and daily operation of a wide variety of recreation programs and services, including:

Licensed Before & After School Care

  • Support the daily operation of licensed out-of-school care programs.
  • Create engaging activities that promote creativity, learning, physical activity, and social 
    development.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, schools, and community partners.

Sports & Recreation Programming

  • Coach and lead sports, games, and recreational activities for children and youth.
  • Encourage participation, skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Adapt activities to meet the needs and abilities of diverse participants.
  • Foster confidence, resilience, and a love of action living.

Camps & Seasonal Programs

  • Assist with Summer Day Camps, KinderCare, and special programs.
  • Plan and deliver fun, engaging, and age-appropriate experiences.
  • Supervise participants and ensure high standards of safety and customer service.
  • Create memorable moments that children will talk about long after camp ends.

Team Support

  • Assist with recreation events and special initiatives.
  • Support volunteer recruitment, training, and mentorship.
  • Maintain program records and assist with administrative duties.
  • Work collaboratively across the Programs Team to provide exceptional service.

What you Bring

A combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to qualify. A typical way to qualify is equivalency to completion of a post-secondary 
diploma in a related field, such as Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistant, Social Worker, 
Recreation or Human Services.

  • Experience working with children, youth, recreation programs, camps, coaching, or licensed childcare
  • Level 2 Early Childhood Educator Certification (or ability to obtain) is required where the primary focus is children's programming
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
