South Railway Street between Lineham Avenue and Oak Avenue.
Type of Work
The Town of Okotoks is completing sanitary sewer and street upgrades along South Railway Street as part of the River’s Edge Infrastructure Improvements project. This work includes replacing and upgrading sanitary sewer pipes and manholes, road reconstruction, temporary water service connections where required, and construction of a temporary gravel access road to help maintain local access during construction. Construction will be completed in stages:
- Stage 1: Temporary gravel access road
- Stage 2: Oak Avenue to Elm Avenue
- Stage 3: Elm Avenue to Morrison Street
- Stage 4: Morrison Street to Lineham Avenue
Schedule
Site preparation and mobilization: underway until July 27, 2026
Sewer and street restoration work: July 27 to mid-September 2026, weather permitting
Working hours: Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Impacts
Construction will affect local traffic, residents and businesses in the East Lineham area. Work is being planned to minimize disruptions, maintain access where possible and support nearby businesses and residents throughout construction. Residents and businesses can expect:
- Temporary road closures and detours during active construction
- Traffic routed through a temporary gravel access road and designated detour routes
- No on-street parking within active construction areas
- Temporary parking changes where required
- Temporary relocation of community mailboxes
- Temporary water service connections, where required
- Heavy equipment, material stockpiles and active work zones in the area
What to Expect During Construction
Construction areas will be clearly marked with signage, barriers and other safety measures. Please follow posted signs and detour routes, use caution near active work zones, and watch for crews and equipment.
Why this Work is Happening
This work will replace and upgrade the existing sanitary sewer system along South Railway Street to increase capacity, support future growth and improve the long-term reliability of underground infrastructure in the area.
The River’s Edge Infrastructure Improvements project is funded in part through more than $5 million from the Government of Alberta’s Local Growth and Sustainability Grant.
