The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for highly motivated Instructors I & II (Skating) to join our Recreation & Programs team. Reporting to the Programs Team Leader, this role is responsible for:

  • Planning and delivery of skating classes and hockey lessons while ensuring the safety, well-being and enjoyment of participants using progressive instruction techniques to support development; 
  • Teaching specific skills to participants through progressive physical fitness development and sharing of knowledge;
  • Planning and implementing quality programs;
  • Assessing participant needs and providing adaptations as necessary;
  • Delivering safe, engaging, and high-quality skating instruction that supports skill development, confidence, and enjoyment for participants of all ages and abilities;
  • Maintaining program records and assisting with program evaluation;
  • Attending regular training sessions including Emergency Response Training

What you Bring

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is current fitness instructor certification from Alberta Fitness or equivalent certification/training and experience specific to skating, as well as:

  • A High School Diploma 
  • A minimum of one or more years direct/indirect related work experience representing continuous learning;
  • Previous experience teaching or instructing skating or similar recreation programs is an asset; 
  • Experience working with children, youth, or beginner learners preferred;
  • Current First Aid certification; 
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays;
  • Ability to work in an indoor ice arena environment;
  • Demonstrated ability in assessing participant needs and determining adaptations as necessary;
  • High degree of customer service;
  • Strong communication skills along with demonstrated initiative, planning, and organizational skills; 
  • Sound judgement in safety standards and well-developed customer service skills
