Fire Prevention Week kicks off with an Open House at Okotoks Firehall #1 on October 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” focusing on preventing fire risks from everyday items like phones, tablets, tools, toys, and other lithium-ion battery–powered devices.
“Fire Prevention Week is one of our favourite times of the year because it gives us a chance to connect directly with the community,” said Fire Chief, Trevor Brice. “We want families to not only enjoy seeing what goes on behind the scenes at the firehall but also take away practical tips that can help keep them safe at home.”
The Open House is a chance for community members of all ages to learn important fire safety tips while exploring behind the scenes at Okotoks Fire Hall #1. Visitors can check out the fire trucks and equipment, meet Okotoks Fire & Rescue crew members and take part in games and activities throughout the day. Highlights include story time with the Okotoks Fire Chief, and contests and prizing for best-dressed firefighter.
Fire Prevention Week runs from October 5 to 11, 2025. Throughout the week, residents can tune into the Town’s social channels for practical fire safety tips and resources on how to prevent fire risks caused by lithium-ion batteries and other everyday hazards.
