With the ongoing heat wave and dry conditions, the Town of Okotoks is urging all residents to stay vigilant about fire safety! Wildfire season is here, and taking proactive steps now can help reduce the risk of fires in our community.

Here are three simple ways to help prevent wildfires:

  • Be extremely careful when discarding smoking materials—careless disposal is one of the top causes of wildfires. Always make sure cigarettes or other smoking materials are completely out before tossing them—and only use proper, non-flammable containers.
  • If you see smoke or flames, or spot a fire in grass or wildland areas, call 911 right away. Immediate response is key when it comes to grass and wildland fires.
  • If you notice any suspicious activity around a fire, report it to the RCMP by calling 403-938-4202. If it's safe to do so, please stay on the scene so you can provide dispatch with any helpful information.
