Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP)

Okotoks Clean Energy Improvement Program is open for applications!

Okotoks’ Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) is currently open for applications on a first-come, first-served basis until financing is depleted.

What is CEIP?

CEIP offers financing to residential property owners to help with the upfront costs of energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades. CEIP offers homeowners:

  • Financing for up to 100% of eligible project costs.
  • Competitive interest rates (rate is currently 3%).
  • Long repayment terms (up to 20 years).
  • The option to repay in full at any time without penalty.
  • An incentive of $500 toward total project costs for the first 39 completed projects. The rebate is applied directly to your Clean Energy Improvement Tax, reducing your total financing amount. This incentive will be applied upon the completion of your project
  • Repayment is collected through your property tax bill and the financing remains tied to the property (i.e., if you decide to sell your property, you can pay off the balance without penalty or leave the remaining balance with the property tax bill for the new owner.)

The program is administered by Alberta Municipalities and you can review the CEIP Terms and Conditions here.

This program is carried out with assistance from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund, an endowment created by the Government of Canada.

The Clean Energy Improvement Program launched in Okotoks in January of 2024. The program is administered by Alberta Municipalities and you can review the CEIP Terms and Conditions here. Participants must be the legal owner of an existing low-rise residential property located in our municipality and meet all requirements listed in the terms and conditions linked above.

CEIP projects must be a minimum of $3000 to qualify for the program and a maximum of $50,000, and must complete an NRCAN Energy Audit pre and post project. Read the information below for more details about how CEIP works and how you can prepare to apply.

The Town is eager for local Contractors to get involved in CEIP. CEIP Alberta will be compiling a list of approved contractors, familiar with the CEIP application process, and training sessions will be available to help local contractors sign up for this. Electricians, solar installers, renovation contractors, plumbers, and appliance installers will all be needed to provide energy efficient retrofits. Additionally, all applicants will require an NRCan Energy Audit, so Energy Auditors will also be needed.

View our virtual contractor information session to learn more about becoming a CEIP qualified contractor.

If you are interested in becoming an NRCan Energy Advisor, more information is available on the NRCan Greener Homes website.

If your company is interested in becoming an approved contractor, you can contact the Alberta CEIP program at myceip.ca.
