The Town and Lions Club of Okotoks have partnered on a pilot project to create a skating trail available to the community for 2021/2022 winter season. The pilot will determine if the activity is a good fit for the area, the Town, and the Lion’s Club.
“During these times where indoor gatherings are still not recommended, this pilot is a wonderful opportunity for family and friends to connect and enjoy the outdoors,” said Christa Michailuck, Town of Okotoks Parks Manager.
The Lion’s Club of Okotoks have generously provided the space at the Lion’s Campground in Sheep River Park (99 Woodhaven Drive), where the skating trail will be located this season.
Last winter, the Town’s skating trail located at another site was very popular with users. Since the Lion’s Campground site is much more sheltered from the elements than the previous site, the Town feels this will improve ice conditions and create a better skating experience.
The skating trail is for pleasure skating only and users are requested to keep the area clean and tidy. For insurance reasons, users are not permitted to use the fire pits. The Town of Okotoks sincerely thanks the Lion’s Club of Okotoks for sponsoring the skating trail this winter.
