Town calls on youth writers and artists for digital magazine project

The Town of Okotoks is on the lookout for budding young writers and artists to contribute their talents to a youth focused digital magazine. The initiative aims to highlight local landmarks and youth resources that are unique to Okotoks.

“This project seeks to provide a platform for local youth to express their creativity while shedding light on what they like most about Okotoks,” says Sian Anderson, community wellness team lead. “From parks and historical sites to recreation centers and support networks, the goal is to offer a comprehensive view of what makes our town a wonderful place for young individuals to live and grow.”

Calling all creatives

The Town invites writers and artists in grades 7 to 12 who are eager to contribute their unique perspectives. Whether through poetry, short stories, photography, illustrations, or other artistic forms, participants are encouraged to capture the beauty of local landmarks, share personal stories of their favourite spots in town, and showcase the wealth of youth resources available in Okotoks.

Building community pride

The initiative aims to not only provide a creative outlet for local youth, but to foster a sense of community pride. By actively involving young minds in the process of highlighting what Okotoks means to them, the Town hopes to strengthen the bond between the youth and the community they call home.

"We believe that empowering our young writers and artists to contribute to the digital magazine will not only showcase their creative talents, but also deepen their connection to the community,” said Amy Snyder, community wellness specialist and project lead.
