The Town of Okotoks is receiving more than $5 million from the Government of Alberta through the Local Growth and Sustainability Grant (LGSG) – Growth Component, becoming the first municipality in Alberta to be formally announced under the program.
The $5,071,448 grant will fund essential deep utility and road infrastructure as part of the River’s Edge Development Project, helping to manage infrastructure demands while supporting future growth in the community. Construction is expected to begin before Sept. 30, 2025, in alignment with program guidelines.
“This $5 million investment is more than just a number—it’s a commitment to Okotoks’ future,” said Mayor Tanya Thorn. “It’s about building strong, vibrant communities and ensuring the infrastructure is in place to support the demands in our community.”
The infrastructure project will lay the foundation for new economic development and is part of the Town’s long-term strategy to accommodate population growth, attract investment, and maintain a high quality of life for residents.
“These aren’t flashy projects, but they’re critical,” said Thorn. “They’re the behind-the-scenes work that makes it possible for businesses to open their doors and for our community to grow in a smart, sustainable way.”
The Town is grateful to the provincial government for recognizing the importance of supporting municipalities experiencing significant growth pressures.
“It takes a team effort to build for Alberta’s future,” said Minister of Municipal Affairs Ric McIver. “Initiatives such as the River’s Edge Development Project will help the Town of Okotoks develop the infrastructure it needs to support its growing community, while sparking economic growth and opportunity.”
