Okotoks youth invited to take a seat at the table

Youth standing together

If you’ve ever wanted to have a real say in your community, now’s your chance. The Town of Okotoks is inviting local youth to step up, speak up, and get involved by joining one of several Council committees and boards. Youth voices play an important role in shaping the future of Okotoks, and Council is looking for enthusiastic, community-minded young people to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table.

“Okotoks is a community that grows stronger when everyone has a voice, including our youth,” said Mayor Tanya Thorn. “These positions are a great opportunity to get involved, share your ideas and help shape decisions that impact your community today and into the future. If you’re curious, passionate or just want to try something new, we encourage you to apply.”

Applications are open until May 3, 2026, for youth positions on the following committees:

  • Family and Community Support Services (two positions): Help identify social priorities, support programs and contribute to funding decisions that strengthen a safe, welcoming community.
  • Okotoks Public Library Board (one position): Play a role in shaping library services, programs and policies while helping keep the library a vibrant community hub.
  • United Way/Okotoks Partnership (one position): Support local fundraising efforts and help decide how funds are distributed to programs that make a meaningful impact in Okotoks and surrounding areas.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • be between the ages of 14 and 18, and
  • live in and attend school in Okotoks

Whether you’re interested in community programs, books and learning, or making a difference through local initiatives, there’s a place for you to get involved.

Full details on each position, as well as information on how to apply online, in person or through the mail, can be found at shapeourtown.okotoks.ca/youth-committee-positions.
