The Town of Okotoks is thrilled to announce that its beloved annual holiday festival, Light Up Okotoks, has won the 2025 Canadian Event Award for Best Event for a City or Municipality. Mayor Tanya Thorn and Community Events Specialist Connie Drake proudly accepted the honour at the awards gala in Toronto today.
This prestigious national recognition places Okotoks alongside Canada's largest urban centers and highlights the town's remarkable ability to create community magic on a national stage. "Winning this award is a tremendous honour and speaks volumes about the passion, dedication, and community spirit that defines Okotoks," said Mayor Tanya Thorn. "Our team, our volunteers, and our entire community share in this achievement."
Now in its 32nd year, Light Up Okotoks has consistently attracted more than 15,000 residents and visitors, transforming downtown Okotoks into a festive wonderland complete with twinkling lights, festive music, horse-drawn wagon rides, local markets, glowing firepits, cheerful carolers, and a spectacular fireworks finale.
"Every year, we strive to create an unforgettable experience that captures the heart of our community and shows the warmth and spirit of the holiday season," said Connie Drake. "Receiving this award is a beautiful validation of our hard work and commitment to making Light Up Okotoks a standout event year after year."
The Canadian Event Awards recognize excellence in community impact, logistics, sustainability, risk management, and engagement, reinforcing Okotoks' reputation for event excellence across Canada. The award specifically highlights events that foster community spirit, support local businesses, and create lasting memories for attendees.
