North Railway Street has reopened following two construction seasons of underground infrastructure renewal and streetscape improvements in downtown Okotoks.
Construction began in 2025 between Elm Place and Alberta Avenue and continued in 2026 from Alberta Avenue to McRae Street. The project renewed critical underground infrastructure while improving accessibility, pedestrian connections and public spaces along the corridor.
“North Railway Street is an important connection through downtown, and this project represents a significant investment in the heart of our community,” said Chris MacIsaac, Community Identity Manager. “The improvements create a more accessible and inviting environment for residents and visitors while supporting the continued vibrancy of the area’s business community.”
While much of the work focused on renewing essential underground infrastructure, the project also reimagined the downtown experience. Improved public spaces, better pedestrian connections and thoughtful streetscape enhancements have created a more inviting environment that encourages people to spend time downtown, support local businesses and connect with one another.
"We are especially grateful to our downtown businesses and residents for their partnership, patience and resilience throughout construction," said MacIsaac. “Thank you as well to everyone who continued to visit, shop and dine downtown. That ongoing support made a meaningful difference to local businesses while these improvements took shape.”
The reopening marks an important milestone in the Town’s ongoing work to renew downtown infrastructure and strengthen the area as a welcoming destination for residents, businesses and visitors.
