Project Description
FortisAlberta is upgrading the electricity network in Okotoks by installing new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technology. This includes adding AMI network equipment (gateways, routers and streetlight controllers) and upgrading electricity meters for all homes and businesses.
Project Location
Town of Okotoks — installations will occur on FortisAlberta-owned poles, streetlights and customer properties.
Type of Work
Installation of 57 AMI network devices (gateways, routers, and streetlight controllers) to establish the new communication network
Replacement of select home and business meters to establish the network
Full mass installation of AMI electricity meters for all homes and businesses following network completion
Schedule
Network equipment installation: November – December 2025
Each device installation will take approximately 15-30 minutes
Mass meter installation: remainder of 2025 – December 2029
Impacts
Limited and short traffic disruptions during network device installations
No digging or ground disturbance required
Crews will carry FortisAlberta identification and operate marked vehicles and equipment
What to Expect
Local FortisAlberta crews will install 57 AMI devices beginning in November, completing work by early December 2025.
Once the network is established, mass meter installations will roll out for all homes and businesses across Okotoks between late 2025 and 2029.
Olameter Inc. will perform mass meter installations under FortisAlberta’s oversight.
Residents and businesses will receive at least three months notice before installations begin in their area.
Work will not require entry into homes unless otherwise specified.
