Following the public hearing and final bylaw readings, Okotoks Town Council has officially approved Our Plan for Downtown: The Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (Downtown ARP). This statutory plan outlines the community’s vision for a more active, connected and resilient downtown core.

The Downtown ARP provides a comprehensive framework to guide future growth and revitalize the heart of Okotoks for years to come. It supports strategic infill, heritage preservation, infrastructure upgrades and public realm enhancements, to ensure the downtown remains a central hub for business, culture and community life.

“This plan reflects the community’s aspirations and lays the groundwork for a thriving downtown that is welcoming, accessible and vibrant,” said Mayor Tanya Thorn. “By approving the Downtown ARP, we are committing to thoughtful, inclusive development that enhances quality of life and supports long-term prosperity.”

Key highlights of the plan include:

  • A vision for compact, mixed-use development that enhances pedestrian accessibility and supports local business.
  • Policies to preserve heritage character while encouraging innovative architecture.
  • Streetscape and open space improvements that create vibrant public spaces.
  • Infrastructure and mobility strategies that prioritize safety, connectivity and accessibility.

Developed with broad public input from residents, businesses and other impacted groups, the Downtown ARP builds on previous planning work and reflects the shared values of the community. With Council’s approval, the plan will guide decision-making, zoning updates, capital investments and private development in the downtown area.
