Okotoks’ Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) opened for a second round of applications on July 16, 2024, and will offer financing to residential property owners to help with the upfront costs of energy efficient and renewable energy upgrades.

Successful CEIP applicants can receive financing for up to 100% of eligible project costs and an incentive of $500 towards total project costs for the first 39 projects. The program offers competitive interest rates, long repayment terms and repayment collected through your property tax bill. The loan is also tied to the property, not the owner.

“We’re excited that Okotoks homeowners have another opportunity to apply for this program and receive financing for cost-saving, energy efficient upgrades in their homes,” says Jinny Toffelmire, environment team lead at Town of Okotoks.

Eligible upgrades include air sealing, adding insulation, installing tankless water heaters or solar panels, upgrading ventilation, air conditioning, light fixtures and more.

The program initially launched in January 2024 and reached capacity in early spring. All remaining applicants were put on a waitlist that was to be prioritized when more financing became available. With the relaunch of CEIP, waitlisted applicants will be contacted by Alberta Municipalities regarding their application and all additional applications will be processed on a first-come, first served basis until financing is depleted.

The program is administered by Alberta Municipalities and is carried out with assistance from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund, an endowment created by the Government of Canada.
