Recreation Fee Assistance

• Program Eligibility

  To be eligible for Recreation Fee Assistance, you must live in the Town of Okotoks or Foothills County and meet the income guidelines below:

  ** Line 23600 Net Income on the most recent Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment is used to determine income. The combined total income for all adult household members is considered.
  
  Note: If the Notice of Assessment is unavailable, please submit one of the following:

  • Alberta Works: Income support health card showing current month.
  • Alberta Works Adult or Child Health benefit approval letter showing eligibility period (not the card).
  • Independent youth letter (a letter from school principal, guidance counsellor, or Child and Youth Support Program of Alberta Children’s Services).
  • Letter from a social agency staff member verifying current income is within the guidelines.

• Apply for Assistance

  Submit the online form (which requires proof of eligibility). You will be notified by email once your application has been processed. Approval is dependent upon meeting eligibility guidelines.

  Please note:

  • Fee Assistance applications are accepted year-round and subsidy is valid for 1 year from date of approval.  
  • Please contact the Okotoks Recreation Centre, Client Services staff at 403-938-8954 to review your current subsidy expiry date before applying​.

  • Supports children 18 and under for.

  • Families may qualify for up to $200 yearly per child.

  • Funding is available to support children between the ages of 4 to 18 years participating in sports and recreation.
  • Only sustained activities are funded, including:
    • Sports camps running for a minimum five consecutive days, or
    • Sports and recreational activities running for a minimum of five weeks

Frequently Asked Questions

• How do I start using my Fee Assistance?

  To register for a program or purchase a pass using Fee Assistance:

  • Visit okotoks.ca/getactive for information/payment on all programs, lessons and facility passes. Your subsidy will be applied to programs and passes online automatically.
  • You can also call Client Services at 403-938-8954.
  • Visit the Recreation Centre in person and let staff know you have Fee Assistance

  Your subsidy will be applicable to programs and passes online automatically. Keep in mind you will be responsible for 20% of the fee.

• Does my Fee Assistance expire?

  Yes. Subsidy expires 12 months after approval. You are eligible to re-apply one month prior to the expiry date of your existing subsidy credit. Note: re-applying for a new subsidy invalidates any current subsidy

• Is there a maximum amount of subsidy each year?

  There is currently no maximum, except for Children’s Day Camps which are limited to a $200 subsidy per year. 10X facility passes must be used prior to repurchase.

• What if programs I register for are cancelled?

  The portion you paid (20%) will be refunded to you. The Recreation Fee Assistance portion (80%) will be reallocated to the program.

• Can I use my Fee Assistance to help pay for community sports programs?

  Fee Assistance can be used for Town of Okotoks community, culture and aquatic programs, facility passes for the Okotoks Recreation Centre. Children wishing to participate in organized sport may be eligible for additional funding through Kidsport or Jumpstart.

• Am I eligible for Fee Assistance if I live outside of Okotoks or Foothills County.

  No. You must live in Okotoks or Foothills County to qualify for Fee Assistance. 

• Do I need to use my subsidy all at once?

  No. Your 80% subsidy can be applied to programs throughout the 12 months your subsidy is approved.  The exception is Children’s Day Camps, which are limited to a $200 subsidy per year.
